Premium Webinar 4: Using Mentor Texts to effectively model and teach critical literacy strategies

This webinar is a practical presentation focusing on using quality mentor texts to support the following key literacy teaching strategies:

  • Read Aloud, Think Aloud
  • Writing About Reading
  • Close Reading

Teachers will have an opportunity to discuss and participate in some practical activities which demonstrate how each of these strategies can be developed using quality mentor texts. An explanation of each strategy will be given together with examples of deliberate instruction based on high quality literature that is used over a series of lessons.

Fiona Jackson

Fiona is an educational literacy consultant who coaches in Melbourne primary schools. She is a passionate advocate for teaching comprehension and “book talk” in real, meaningful contexts from the very start of school. Fiona’s coaching focuses on modelling effective, reading and comprehension strategies during guided reading sessions and through literature response.
