Online resources are available to help you use your Fountas & Pinnell Literacy resources remotely.

These are unprecedented times and the shift to remote learning has prompted many questions related to access and permissions from our valued Fountas & Pinnell Literacy customers. In partnership with Irene Fountas & Gay Su Pinnell, Heinemann and Pearson Australia are providing access to a range of resources and tools to support you in maintaining instructional continuity for your students during this difficult time.

The resources below are available to support planning using Fountas & Pinnell Literacy remote learning resources:

  • Video Overviews with a guided tour of how to access your Online Resources
  • Suggestions to Support Literacy Learning located in your Online Resources account

Benchmark Assessment Systems (BAS)

The Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS) was designed to be administered in person with an unseen text to gather evidence about a child’s literacy development.

The assessment was field-tested for reliability and validity under these conditions. As a standardised assessment, in order to obtain fair and valid results, standardised procedures must be followed. Without these conditions, the assessment is no longer reliable or valid.

With this in mind, the Fountas & Pinnell Literacy team has provided alternative measures that you can use within BAS to collect meaningful data for each of your students while they are learning remotely and provide a snapshot of their literacy learning.

For detailed information, see Response to Using Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment Systems during Remote Learning. Note: The Online Resources referenced here are available for Australian customers via their Pearson Places account.
