New to this edition
  • Update to the availability of all drugs, with newly available ones having been added, as well as those that are no longer available in Australia and New Zealand since the last edition.
  • A number of chapters have been reorganised and some topics expanded considerably. The result is two new chapters: Drugs Used in the Treatment of Migraine (chapter 42) and Drugs and Bone Metabolism (chapter 64).
  • Three existing chapters have been split for improved readability. Drugs Used to Treat Cardiac Insufficiency has been divided into two new chapters, Drugs Used to Treat Heart Failure (chapter 50) and Drugs Used to Treat Dysrhythmia (chapter 51). The Thyroid and Pancreas chapter has been separated into Drugs and the Thyroid (chapter 60) and Drugs and the Pancreas (chapter 61). The Adrenal Cortex and Gonads chapter has been split up into Drugs and the Adrenal Cortex (chapter 62) and Drugs and the Gonads (chapter 63).
  • The separate chapters on Vitamins, Minerals and Amino Acids have been merged into one chapter called Vitamins, Minerals and Amino Acids (chapter 67).
  • The therapeutic approaches associated with the management of important clinical conditions such as heart failure, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and pain have been brought up to date with current clinical guidelines.
  • More Figures and Tables have been included to assist students in visualising difficult pharmacological concepts, the sites of actions of drugs and the range of drug effects expected in a person when particular drug groups are administered.
  • All end-of-chapter questions have been reviewed. There are now over 800 end of chapter questions to assist in the consolidation of learning and a total of 77 Integrated Case Studies found in the end of Sections.
  • An improved media package in MyHealthProfessionsKit website.
  • Updated instructor supplements package.
