A House For The Nation

The Department of the House of Representatives has produced an ambitious multimedia project to chronicle the people, events and issues that have shaped Australia’s House of Representatives during its first century (1901 – 2001). A House for the Nation is an innovative CD-ROM bringing to life the House’s first 100 years and providing a thought-provoking look at the issues that challenge us today.
A House for the Nation takes you on a journey through the first 100 years of Australia’s House of Representatives and beyond. It provides the most comprehensive collection of facts, stories and images of the House of Representatives ever produced.
Meet the people who have made the House what it is today. Explore the buildings which have housed Australia’s federal parliament. Learn about the traditions and practices of the House and their origins.
Find out how the House works and how the Australian people get a say. Discover the issues that have confronted the House during its first century and still challenge it today.
With hundreds of images, historical and contemporary video footage, sound recordings and specially commissioned cartoons, A House for the Nations brings to life Australia’s House of Representatives and its rich history.
