Access to the best science authors, best publishers and best
science teaching knowledge in the market.
Pearson is the market-leading science publisher throughout
Australia, and we're proud to say Pearson Science
is the best series we've ever produced. This experience base has
allowed us to bring a truly national and well-revered author and
publishing team to the project. We won't bore you with the full
list of 25 educators, but here's a few you may know:
- Greg Rickard, well-known author of market
leading Pearson titles such as Science Dimensions (for Vic),
Science Focus (for NSW), Science Ways (for QLD). He is also a
former Head of Department at Koonung Secondary College in
Victoria.
- Maggie Spenceley - A former Curriculum writer
for the Queensland Studies Authority, Maggie is also a well-known
author of the complete Heinemann Queensland Science Project
series.
- Greg Linstead - A former Curriculum writer for
the Education Department of Western Australia and well-known author

The most accessible Science series ever designed (even down to
the size of each letter on the page).
Pearson Science has a focus on how students
learn science in the best way possible. Core to the Australian
Curriculum is Literacy and Scientific Literacy so we made it our
goal to make this the most researched and most accessible series
for students to learn Science. Here's a few of the things
we did to enhance the learning experience:
 |
- We involved Professor Kristina Love, Literacy
Consultant - Head of School of Education, Australian
Catholic University, to conduct a full audit and analysis of
Australian schools science resources. Then we analysed how they
could be made better.
- We consulted with practising science teachers
throughout Australia to find out what teachers really want
in a science series.
- To coincide with the audit, we developed a full set of
writing and literacy guidelines on how to write in the
most clear and fully accessible way. This formed the basis of
how we wrote the book.
- We also learnt how to further enhance a book
visually to develop learning. Things like fonts,
leading (what's leading?), kerning (what's
kerning?) and placement of images (to link with text) were
considered in depth to develop a series that is more accessible
than anything seen before.

The only series with EAL/D activity books.
Pearson Science provides a full suite of
activity books versioned specifically for learners whose native
language isn't English. ACARA state that English as an
Additional Language or Dialect students (EAL/D):
"... require additional time and support, along with
informed teaching that explicitly addresses their language needs,
and assessments that take into account their developing language
proficiency."
Pearson Science addresses this directly with
activity books developed specifically for EAL/D learners. The EAL/D
Activity Books can be used as an alternative, or in conjunction
with the Activity Books.
