What is Leveled Literacy Intervention?

Leveled Literacy Intervention, or LLI, is a small-group, supplementary intervention program designed to support students who are struggling to meet their year-level achievement goals. The aim of the intervention is to help students meet their year-level achievement goals.


LLI have been designed to bring students from Level A to Level Z. LLI is used with Foundation to Year 12 students who are reading below year-level.


The gradient of text is the foundation for the creation of The Continuum of Literacy Learning: A Guide to Teaching, which provides a level by level description of the demands of the texts on readers at each level and the corresponding competencies to teach for, assess and reinforce.


You will find the specific competencies on a Continuum at the end of each level in the Lesson Guide. The Continuum of Literacy Learning texts are not included in the LLI Systems, but are a recommended addition.

Features include: collecting, analysing, and reporting data at the individual and class level; monitoring progress of instructional and independent reading levels; and customising reports to meet class, school and district needs.


A one-year subscription is included with the purchase of each LLI System.

Go paperless!

For even greater convenience, iPad® users can take paperless assessments with the Fountas & Pinnell Reading Record App for all seven Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) systems. This is an efficient alternative to taking a Reading Record on paper.


The Fountas & Pinnell LLI Reading Record App and its corresponding app content accurately analyses reading and accuracy rate, self-correction ratio, and fluency and comprehension scores to reveal students’ progress. Results sync wirelessly to the Online Data Management System (subscription required).
