Always Learning - National Sorry Day & Reconciliation Week

Support National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week with Discovering History, Sharing Our Stories and First Australians

21 May 2012

We have two key events in the Australian Calendar coming up, with National Sorry Day this Saturday, 26 May 2012; followed by National Reconciliation Week from Sunday, 27th May - Sunday, 3rd June.

These events are annual reminders to reflect on the treatment of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our country's past, and to remind all Australians to continue to help create an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are treated fairly as a part of our community.

National Sorry Day is a time for all Australians remember the Stolen Generations. Pearson have several titles which you could use to raise student awareness support National Sorry Day, such as Our Special Days - April to June, a title from the Discovering History series. A sample page is shown below.

National Reconciliation Week is a great opportunity to teach the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures as an Australian Curriculum cross-curriculum priority. We have two fantastic series we would like to highlight, Sharing Our Stories and First Australians.

What have you got planned for National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week? Share your plans with the Pearson Primary Community on our Pearson Australia Primary Facebook page, or tell us on Twitter @Pearson_Schools.
